Joyce, 29, brings six seasons of professional baseball experience to Bridgeport. Signed by the New York Yankees as an undrafted free agent, Joyce made his professional debut in 2002 with 15 games played between Yankees single-A affiliates in Staten Island and Greensboro. The southpaw’s independent league debut came in 2003 with the Alexandria Aces, posting a 3.15 ERA with a career-best 39 strikeouts in 40 innings. With the New Haven County Cutters last season, Joyce went 2-4 with a 3.29 ERA in career-high 42 appearances (52 innings). This season with the Nashua Pride, the lefty went 1-1 with 32 strikeouts in his 40.2 innings of relief. Stawarz, 27, broke into the professional baseball ranks in 2005 with the Cutters. In three seasons with New Haven, the right-hander posted a 16-14 record and a 5.09 ERA. He made 56 appearances (30 starts) in that span with 152 strikeouts and a .290 opponent batting average. This season with Nashua, the Connecticut native went 3-4 with a 5.82 ERA in 85 innings of work (24 appearances, 12 starts).
