Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced the acquisition of pitchers Mike Joyce and Jarrett Stawarz. The left-handed Joyce and the righty-throwing Stawarz look to bolster the Bluefish pitching staff for the final week of the season.

Joyce, 29, brings six seasons of professional baseball experience to Bridgeport. Signed by the New York Yankees as an undrafted free agent, Joyce made his professional debut in 2002 with 15 games played between Yankees single-A affiliates in Staten Island and Greensboro. The southpaw’s independent league debut came in 2003 with the Alexandria Aces, posting a 3.15 ERA with a career-best 39 strikeouts in 40 innings. With the New Haven County Cutters last season, Joyce went 2-4 with a 3.29 ERA in career-high 42 appearances (52 innings). This season with the Nashua Pride, the lefty went 1-1 with 32 strikeouts in his 40.2 innings of relief.

Stawarz, 27, broke into the professional baseball ranks in 2005 with the Cutters. In three seasons with New Haven, the right-hander posted a 16-14 record and a 5.09 ERA. He made 56 appearances (30 starts) in that span with 152 strikeouts and a .290 opponent batting average. This season with Nashua, the Connecticut native went 3-4 with a 5.82 ERA in 85 innings of work (24 appearances, 12 starts).

The Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball Club, a charter team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, plays its home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, located off Exit 27 of I-95 on the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road in Bridgeport. 2008 individual tickets and group outings are available by calling 203-345-4800.
