Eastern League announces divisional realignment for 2010 season
The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc., has announced that the two divisions in the league will be restructured and renamed for the 2010 season. These changes are due to the addition of the Richmond Flying Squirrels to the league. The two six-team divisions will now be known as the Eastern Division and Western Division. More

Eastern League announces nominees for Minor League Baseball awards
The Eastern League of Professional Baseball is pleased to announce that the league nominees for the Minor League Baseball postseason awards have been selected. These awards include the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year, the Larry MacPhail Promotional Trophy and the John H. Johnson President’s Trophy. Winners of these awards will be selected by Minor League Baseball and will be honored at the 2009 Baseball Winter Meetings in Indianapolis, Indiana. More

Eastern League announces relocation for 2010
The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc., in conjunction with the City of Richmond, held a press conference today to announce the Connecticut Defenders will be relocating to Richmond, Virginia for the 2010 season. The team will be playing their home games at The Diamond, which will have numerous improvements made to the facility prior to the start of the season. Richmond has been without professional baseball since the Atlanta Braves moved their Triple-A franchise to Gwinnett, Georgia following the 2008 season. The Braves had been in Richmond since 1966. More

Bluefish top Patriots 5-1 to avoid sweep
The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening. The Bluefish took the lead in the top of the third inning. Designated hitter Wilson Batista singled, second baseman Enohel Polanco doubled, and shortstop Ryner Bautista followed with an RBI double to score Batista and Polanco. Third baseman Luis Lopez then singled to drive home Bautista for the 3-0 lead. More

Patriots Filet Bluefish 13-3
The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 13-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening. The Patriots took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Shortstop Anthony Granato doubled, third baseman Jeff Nettles followed with a double to drive him home, and catcher Jason Belcher doubled to plate Nettles. Second baseman Teuris Olivares (10) followed with a two run homerun for the 4-0 lead. More

Trenton falls 4-1 to New Britain in season finale
New Britain Third baseman Alejandro Machado hit the go-ahead three-run home run in the fifth inning, and the Rock Cats went on for a 4-1 win over Trenton on Labor Day from New Britain Stadium. New Britain took three out of four games in the season-ending four-game series between the two teams. The loss ends Trenton's season. More

Trenton playoff hopes come to an end in 6-4 loss to New Britain
New Britain First baseman Whit Robbins hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning, and the New Britain Rock Cats came from behind to top Trenton 6-4 on Sunday afternoon from New Britain Stadium. The loss eliminated the Thunder from post-season consideration. The Thunder will miss the Eastern League post-season for the first time since 2004. New Britain advances to the Eastern League post-season for the first time since the 2003 season. New Britain will play Connecticut in the Northern Division Championship Series, which will start on Wednesday. More

Trenton wins wild 4-3 game in 12 innings
Trenton scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning and held on for a 4-3 win over New Britain on Saturday night from New Britain Stadium. Trenton is now one game behind New Britain for second place in the Northern Division with two games to play. Trenton needs to win the final two games of the series to advance to the Eastern League playoffs. More

Trenton loses 8-7 heartbreaker to New Britain on Friday night
New Britain Catcher Wilson Ramos connected on a game-winning RBI double off of Trenton Reliever Kanekoa Texeira in the ninth inning to lift the Rock Cats to an 8-7 win over Trenton on Friday night from New Britain Stadium. The Rock Cats now lead the Thunder by two games in the Eastern League Northern Division race for second place, with three games left. Trenton needs to win the remaining three games of the series to advance to the Eastern League Playoffs. More

Carlos Santana of the Akron Aeros is named the 2009 Eastern League Most Valuable Player
The Eastern League of Professional Baseball is pleased to announce that Akron Aeros catcher Carlos Santana has been selected as the winner of the 2009 Eastern League Most Valuable Player Award. This marks the second consecutive season that Santana has been selected the MVP of a league, as he was named the 2008 California League MVP after hitting .323 with 34 doubles, 14 homers, 96 RBI and 88 runs scored in 99 games with the Inland Empire 66ers last year. More
