Hartford, CT - Achieve Hartford! announced today that Ernst & Young will be the presenting sponsor at its annual fundraiser, the Community Spelling Bee, on Friday, October 4 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Theater of the Performing Arts in Hartford. This year’s event will feature Connecticut native Javier Colón, singer-songwriter-musician and 2011 winner of The Voice.
As EY emphasized, “We believe a bright future starts with all of us. That's why we're proud to sponsor the Community Spelling Bee. It's one of the ways we're building a better working world, one community at a time.”
Singer-songwriter-musician Javier Colón found a wide audience (more than 13 million viewers) with his victory as winner during the inaugural season of NBC’s The Voice, one of the most successful new televised talent shows of 2011. Having grown up in Connecticut, Colon is proud to be the emcee for Achieve Hartford!’s Community Spelling Bee, an event that supports the need for high-quality public education for all students in our capital city.
The Community Spelling Bee, now in its seventh year, provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the Hartford community to celebrate and support the need for high-quality public education for all Hartford students. Teams of 3 middle and high school students compete in a friendly competition to spell increasingly difficult words. Top spelling teams are awarded iPads and other amazing prizes for best costumes and much more! A separate adult competition ensures plenty of laughs. Registration is free for students, and adult teams are $250. Admission is free for all attendees. To register visit ezevent.com/achievehartfordspellingbee .
