FAIRFIELD, CT - The Fourth Annual Communion Breakfast for Fairfield County Educators will take place at Sacred Heart University on Sunday, March 25, 2012. The event will feature a special presentation entitled “From Classroom to Community: How Educators Can Build a Better World” by Dr. Maryann Cusimano Love, an associate professor of International Relations in the Politics Department of the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. The breakfast, designed for educators from pre-K through grade 12 and in higher education, will offer practical information and networking opportunities for those who attend.

The Communion Breakfast is open to all. Tickets are $35 per person and $300 for a table of 10. Since seating is limited, early registration is encouraged. To register, visit www.sacredheart.edu/capp.cfm.

Sponsored by Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) of Fairfield County and SHU’s Isabelle Farrington College of Education, this event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a special tour of the art installations in the University’s Chapel of the Holy Spirit, followed by the celebration of mass by The Most Reverend William E. Lori, S.T.D., Bishop of Bridgeport, at 9 a.m. Breakfast will immediately follow in University Commons.

Dr. Maryann Cusimano Love is a mother, wife and an award-winning international educator and author. She has spoken to audiences ranging from suburban pre-school and inner city children to military officers at the Pentagon, diplomats at the United Nations and news outlets such as CNN International. She is a winner of Harvard University’s Pew Faculty Fellowship for teaching and Catholic University’s Teacher of the Year Award.

Her books, which include You Are My I Love You; You Are My Miracle; Sleep, Baby, Sleep; You Are My Wish and the upcoming You Are My Wonder (release scheduled for Fall 2012) arose out of her work with children, in particular the PeaceKids group in the Sursum Corda housing project in Washington, D.C. Dr. Cusimano Love and her husband Richard live on the Chesapeake Bay with their three children, Maria, Ricky and Ava. She is a member of the Authors Guild and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

CAPP (Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice) was founded in 1993 to encourage business people, academics and other professionals to study and promote Catholic social teaching. It is named for Pope John Paul’s encyclical of the same name that marked the 100th anniversary o f the landmark papal document on social responsibility, Rerum Novarum. The Diocese of Bridgeport is one of three pioneering dioceses in the United States to establish a chapter.

The Isabelle Farrington College of Education is the largest independent educator of teachers and administrators in the state, and it annually recommends about 300 students for certification. The College received full accreditation last spring from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the organization responsible for professional accreditation of teacher education. It sponsors a vigorous internship program for students who are completing their initial certification after they have completed their bachelor’s degree; it places more than 200 interns in schools each year.
