Health career Open House

BRIDGEPORT, CT — St. Vincent’s College will host an Open House for its degree and certificate programs in healthcare on Saturday November 7, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., 2800 Main Street in Bridgeport.

In addition to its well known Nursing program, the college offers Associate in Science degrees in Medical Assisting, General Studies and Radiography, as well as a wide range of continuing education and certificate programs leading to healthcare careers.

“Our message is that it’s a great time to pursue a health career,” said Joanne Wolfertz, Ed.D., Vice President and Academic Dean. She said the Open House is an opportunity to learn about pursuing a degree or a short-term certificate program leading to employment in the healthcare field.

Certificate programs leading to healthcare careers include Medical Assisting, Healthcare Reimbursement Specialist, Medical Office Assistant, Healthcare Management (online), Hospital Coding Specialist, Central Sterile Processing Technician, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Promotion, Multi-Skilled Assistant and the RN Refresher Program.

The Open House will include presentations on the admissions process, financial aid, student life activities, and continuing education programs. Presentations will also be made by each of the program directors.

The St. Vincent’s College nursing program offers classroom and early hands-on experiences in a variety of clinical areas including medicine, surgery, maternal-child health, psychiatry and critical care. While St. Vincent’s Medical Center serves as the primary clinical setting for this program, a select number of facilities and agencies within the greater Bridgeport area are also utilized.

In addition to drawing recent high school graduates and college transfers, the St. Vincent’s College also attracts many adults interested in making a career change. The average age of students is 28, and many attend courses while also working to support themselves and their families.

St. Vincent’s College, located on the Medical Center campus, is conveniently is easily accessible from I-95, Route 8/25 and the Merritt Parkway. It offers full and part-time classes in both day and evening hours as well as a growing list of online courses. Financial aid is available to eligible students.
