Stamford Organization Launches Youth Mentorship Program

Stamford, CT - The Stamford Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and the Stamford Alumni Foundation, Inc. announces the official launch of the Stamford Alumni (Kappa League) Leadership Development program, which is a youth mentorship program targeting young men in grades 6 to 12.

On April 30th, the organization held an informational for local parents and students at Stamford High School. More than ten (10) male youth students attended with their parents and expressed enthusiasm about the launch of the Kappa League. Most are already active in school athletics and community civic activities.

Based on Public School Review, Stamford High School services nearly 1900 students in which over 60% are minority, over 50% are male, and graduation rates are higher than the overall state. Rashad Ford, the Chair for the organization’s mentorship initiatives stated, “Kappa Alpha Psi applauds the work of teachers, faculty and coaches. We also acknowledge it takes a village to ensure our youth reach their full potential. We look forward to complimenting the work these educators do day in and day out.”

The Kappa League has been a part of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. since 1969 and takes a comprehensive approach to mentoring the whole person. Some of the key areas of focus include discipline, appearance, career development, health education, etiquette, and communication.

Other youth initiatives the organization administer include an annual scholarship program for graduating seniors and, new for 2014, the 1st Annual College Signing Day, acknowledging local students for past achievements and their commitment to further their education at the college level. The 1st Annual College Signing day will be held on June 14th, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Stamford Offices of KPMG LLP located at3001 Summer Street, Stamford, CT 06905.

About The Stamford Alumni Chapter: The Stamford Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded in 1975 and chartered on May 9, 1976. The Chapter, which is located in Stamford, CT, has a history of serving the youth of the City of Stamford as well as the youth of Greater Fairfield and New Haven Counties. The Chapter is part of the Northeastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
