Stamford, CT - Superintendent Stamford Public Schools Dr. Winifred Hamilton and the Stamford Board of Education announced the appointment of Maria C. (Tina) Rivera as principal of the Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE), at the April 29, 2014, board meeting effective July 1, 2014. Rivera has served as interim principal of the school since July 30, 2013, following the retirement of Paul Gross.

Prior to serving as interim principal, Rivera was assistant principal from 2004 through 2013, and was an administrative intern in Stamford from 2003 through 2004. She has held teaching positions in English/language arts, physical education, and health. Among her many accomplishments during her tenure in the Stamford Public Schools, Rivera developed a Senior Capstone Project at AITE to prepare seniors for independent college preparatory work; instituted a community service requirement for all AITE students to instill in them a sense of civic engagement; and created an advisory program to address the academic and social-emotional needs of freshman and at-risk students.

“I am pleased to name Tina as Principal and look forward to her ongoing energy and creativity in the coming years,” said Superintendent Winifred Hamilton.

Rivera holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership, a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, all from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. She also holds several professional certifications.
