As our whole country continues to mourn our loss from September 11, 2001, Villa Maria School will have a show of unity and sacrifice via a special prayer service on Friday, September 9, 2011.
Although even the school's older students probably do not remember the events and its younger students were not yet born, the losses continue to be felt as we all remember the atrocities.
Besides commemorating those who lost their lives or their loved ones, the ceremony will focus on the need to accept each other’s differences, to concentrate on ways of serving others, to rededicate our peace pole, and to make the world a better place in which to live.
Villa Maria Trustee Susan Jordan will light a candle for her son who was lost in the World Trade Center, and faculty member Artie Waters will honor the memory of his cousin, a first responder who also perished. Among our honored guests will be State Representative Livvy Floren, former State Representative Christel Truglia, as well as local fire fighters, and police officers who are invited to the service, in which the school will advocate for peace and healing for all.
The Villa Maria School in Stamford is a private school for children with learning disabilities in grades K-9.
