STAMFORD, CT - The Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut (TVC) has partnered with Julia A. Stark Elementary School to launch the Rising Stars After-school Program. This program places volunteer mentors with first- and second-grade children who are eager to get a strong start on their lifelong journey of learning.

“These children face academic challenges, but could reach their full potential with extra support,” said Bridget Fox, executive vice president of Volunteerism at TVC. “This program will pair a volunteer mentor with a child once a week after school for 45 minutes to help them with their reading and homework. We are honored to be partnering with Julia A. Stark Elementary School to support this important program.”

There will be a Lunch and Learn Orientation at The Volunteer Center, 1150 Summer St., 2nd Floor, Stamford, on Wednesday, December 18th, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. for those interested in learning more about this program.

To register for the orientation, or for more information about becoming a Rising Stars After-School Program Mentor, contact Bridget Fox or Nicole Granskog at The Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut. Please call 203-348-7714 or send an e-mail to or
