South Norwalk, CT - There’s no denying America’s love affair with red meat, pork fat, mash, and hops – a.k.a. burgers, bacon, bourbon and beer. This unabashed line-up gets its due at South Norwalk’s newest gastro bar, Killer B. Restaurateur Greg Pettinella has taken everyone’s favorite food and drink and instead of just including a few of these items within a larger menu, he has centered the entire menu around the four Bs, pushing the envelope, while embracing the sheer decadence of it all.
“The idea has been brewing (pun not intended) for quite some time now, “explains Greg, “‘Give the people what they want’ is what I say. And time has proven that these items are not a passing trend. So, why not have a little fun with it?”
In a country where 50 billion burgers are consumed a year, bourbon production has increased more than 170 percent since 1999, bacon sales are $4 billion a year and rising, and the craft brewing industry contributed $55.7 billion to the U.S. economy in 2014 and had a 13% increase in volume since 2015, this killer combination (pun intended) hits all the right notes.

Killer B, which plans to open early December, has made itself at home at 80 Washington Street, the site of Johnny Utah’s. re-haul of the massive dual bar and restaurant space, with an added component set to take shape in early 2017. This new eating and drinking establishment boasts and industrial design element, complete with steel and cement surfaces and furnishings flecked with a Killer B yellow and black backdrop, befitting a contemporary gastro bar esthetic.

The best description of Killer B lies in the menu. Its no-nonsense approach forgoes fancy and instead takes no time jumping into the good stuff. The 10 ounce grass-fed burgers (add $5 for Waygu beef) are the meaty foundation from which the burger experience begins. Add your favorite toppings or check out some outrageous flavor combinations, including; Stinger - jalapeno beef patty, lettuce, chipotle mayo, jalapeno, Sriracha, pepper jack cheese, on a chili flake toasted bun; Plain Jane - LTO, special sauce, and American cheese; Queen B – double-decker pork and beef patty seasoned with bourbon and Guinness, LTO, mustard bacon aioli, provolone cheese, 4 strips of your choice of candied bacon, on a bacon toasted brioche bun; Surf and Turf - citrus aioli and buttered lobster; and the Patty Melt - LT, blackberry infused mushrooms and onion, Swiss cheese, all sandwiched between Texas toast.
A HAMBURGER BY ANY OTHER NAME COSTS TWICE AS MUCH.
Candied bacon, presented clothesline style, comes in designer flavors; bourbon, butterscotch, fire, honey, and orange, and will change on the chef’s whim. Add any bacon to your burger for $2. Other menu highlights are of the Cast Iron Mac and Cheese variety; kid-like or all grown up with added spice, lobster, or 2 of the Killer B’s mixed right in. Small plates feature pub favorites turned on their head. Volcano potatoes are wrapped in bacon and topped with onion, Sriracha, honey, and oozing with melted cheese. Fried bacon wrapped mozzarella with chipotle bourbon sauce and bourbon bacon meatballs further tell the Killer B story. If the beer cheese fondue has you feeling remorseful, there’s the Caesar, spinach, burger, lobster, or house salads to get you over the leafy green guilt.
Heading back over to the indulgent side of the menu, desserts do not disappoint. Shameless super shakes are sweet and creamy concoctions bejeweled with frosting, peanut butter, candies, cookies, and other ridiculous sweet and savory treats. Chocolate covered bacon is a no-brainer, as are the friend bacon Oreos and KB’s cheesecake with chocolate caramel bourbon bacon glaze.
The Killer B beverage program includes, you guessed it; lots of beer and bourbon! The guys have curated a stellar selection of craft beer including IPAs, can-kickers, and hard to get brews. Premium bourbon and new seasonal releases will be given special attention. But of course, it wouldn’t be a Killer B experience without a little out-of-the-bottle thinking. Creative cocktails include; Smokin’ B - maple smoked right at your table, smoked wild turkey, dry vermouth, wild moon birch, and bitters; Honey Old Fashion – local honey, Woodford Reserve, and bitters Lavender Fields - Absolut vodka, fresh lemon, lavender, and cucumber; and the Killer Toddy - house brewed cider and Jameson Caskmate.
