Local leaders and senior care experts joined families in celebrating at the community’s grand opening on Thursday, January 24. The event featured guest speaker David Troxel, Alzheimer’s expert and author, who will share his relationship-based model of dementia care.

The Alzheimer’s Association reports that 5.4 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease and one in eight older Americans has Alzheimer's disease. According to the Connecticut Alzheimer’s Association, an estimated 2,000 new cases of Alzheimer’s were reported between 2000 and 2010. Atria Life Guidance neighborhoods are designed specifically for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or other memory impairments.

This expansion helps us continue to provide the highest quality of life possible for older people living with Alzheimer’s disease, and also enables us to be a resource for families who are trying to navigate what can often be a difficult journey.”

Atria Stamford is currently home to approximately 145 residents, and employs more than 115 full-time and part-time staff members.

In addition to Atria Stamford, Atria has added 12 other new Life Guidance memory care neighborhoods to its portfolio since 2007, with another opening later this year and others planned for the future.
