New Haven, CT - A bevy of moms, babies and VIPs will celebrate the first birthday of the Dr. Romeo A. and Lena B. Vidone Birth Center at the Hospital of Saint Raphael on Friday, Feb. 10. Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Jewel Mullen, M.D., is scheduled to attend the event, which also marks the Vidone Center’s designation as Baby-Friendly for promotion of breast feeding.
Dr. Mullen will present the official Baby-Friendly plaque at 9:30 a.m., Feb. 10, at the Vidone Center. The first-birthday celebration will continue with babies and moms in the hospital’s cafeteria at 10:30 a.m. The World Health Organization and UNICEF started the Baby-Friendly initiative to recognize hospitals that educate and enable parents to make informed choices about how they feed and care for their babies.
Saint Raphael’s has also been awarded a $75,000 grant to create a special resource and support center to help new mothers with breastfeeding after they are discharged from the hospital. The center is scheduled to open this winter with funding from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority.
The Hospital of Saint Raphael offers a full range of sophisticated and compassionate healthcare for women and children. Our board-certified physicians and experienced staff include neonatologists, highly trained midwives, and pediatricians offering a full range of care for infants, children and adolescents. Expectant mothers can get care in a spa-like atmosphere at the newly renovated Dr. Romeo A. and Lena B. Vidone Birth Center. For more information, visit www.srhs.org/birthcenter.
