Bridgeport, CT - Bridgeport Mayor Ganim and Bridgeport Health Director Maritza Bond will kick off the 3rd annual “Take the Stairs” challenge on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center, 999 Broad Street, Bridgeport, CT 06604. This health initiative encourages residents to incorporate more physical activity in their daily lives by opting for the stairs over elevators and escalators. The “Take the Stairs” Challenge runs until April 13, 2019.
Health Director Maritza Bond said, “Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for health and wellness. It helps to improve your mood, strengthen your bones and reduces the risk of diseases, such as cancers, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.”
Prospective participants can register online on the Bridgeport Health Department’s website at http://www.bridgeportct.gov/takethestairs
Participants will be encouraged to use a mobile application to count their steps. During registration, assistance to download the app will be provided. Participants who do not have access to phone apps will receive a pedometer. All participants will receive a bottle of water, a T-shirt and a reusable shopping bag. Each week participants will be entered in a lottery drawing for incremental incentives throughout the challenge. A grand prize will be given at the end of the challenge.
