Community members will take to the streets with Mayor Michael Pavia and WABC-TV Meteorologist Bill Evans in this year’s Mile of Pink event on Saturday, October 1, starting at Veterans Park in Stamford. The chain of participants will create a visible show of support for breast cancer survivors and kick off Stamford Hospital’s seventh annual Paint the Town Pink campaign. Mayor Pavia and Bill Evans will speak at the start of the event.
Sponsored by Stamford Hospital and other community partners, Paint the Town Pink is an initiative that raises awareness about breast cancer-related issues and stresses the importance of screening and early detection. The campaign offers a month-long calendar of social and educational events in Stamford, Darien, New Canaan and Westport, which will take place throughout October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Every year the outpouring of community support for breast cancer survivors and awareness grows and grows, which is very touching,” said Liz Manfredo, Director of Cancer Services at Stamford Hospital's Bennett Cancer Center. “We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this year at all of the wonderful activities we have planned.”
Participants can purchase Paint the Town Pink T-shirts for $10 each at the event or at the following locations throughout October:
· Bennett Cancer Center, 30 Shelburne Rd., Stamford
· Darien Imaging Center, 6 Thorndal Cir., Suite 104, Darien
· New Wave Seafood, 81 Camp Ave., Stamford
