NEW HAVEN, CT - Andrea Silber, M.D., a co-director of Saint Raphael’s Women’s Center for Breast Health, has been named a “Woman of Strength” by the Get In Touch Foundation. Silber, a Guilford resident, was honored at an event on Oct. 9, 2011, at the Great River Golf Club in Milford.
The Milford-based Get In Touch Foundation promotes breast self-exams and breast-cancer awareness in schools. Dr. Silber has worked at Saint Raphael’s since 1994 and helped found the award-winning Sister To Sister breast cancer screening program. As part of her ongoing efforts to reach out to underserved women, she regularly visits the Salvation Army store in Hamden to encourage women to sign up for cancer screenings and other medical care.
The Women’s Center for Breast Health at the Hospital of Saint Raphael was among the first in the nation to win accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. The center cares for more than 200 newly diagnosed patients a year and offers pioneering technology like digital mammography, ultrasound-guided biopsy and MammoSite targeted radiation therapy, along with a new High-Risk Breast Health Program.
