North Haven, CT - At the 224th Annual Meeting of the Connecticut State Medical Society, Jeffrey A. Gordon, MD was sworn in as the 178th CSMS President. An actively-practicing hematologist-oncologist at the New London Cancer Center, he is the first Windham County physician to serve as CSMS President in 30 years.
Dr. Gordon earned his BA from Brandeis University and his MD from the University of Massachusetts Medical School; he completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Dr. Gordon is dual board-certified in adult Hematology and Medical Oncology. Focused on patient care, he is a medical leader who has been involved in medical staff affairs, peer review, and patient care quality and safety concerns.
Long active in organized medicine, Dr. Gordon has served in a number of leadership roles at the Connecticut State Medical Society, including Bylaws Committee Chair, a former Councilor from Windham County, and a Past President of the Windham County Medical Association. He is a member of the American Medical Association, and was a Student Medical Section Representative to the AMA Council on Legislation and the AMA States Leadership Steering Committee. Dr. Gordon is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Gordon has held academic appointments at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He was an At-Large Representative to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Medical Executive Committee, as well as a member of the L+M Quality Council. He is a member the L+M Tumor Board. Dr. Gordon held a number of leadership positions at Day Kimball Hospital, where he was the Medical Director of Hematology-Oncology Services from 2003 – 2011, Chair of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee from 2003 – 2010, and Chair of the Department of Medicine, among many other committee assignments. Dr. Gordon is also a former member of the Connecticut Medical Examining Board.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Dr. Gordon is an active community volunteer. He serves as Secretary of the Woodstock Education Foundation, and is a Board member of the Woodstock Agricultural Society. Dr. Gordon was elected to the Planning and Zoning Commission of the Town of Woodstock in 2007, and has been re-elected twice, currently serving a third term on the Commission. Since 2008, Dr. Gordon has been the Chair of Woodstock’s Planning and Zoning Commission. He also previously served on the Worcester, MA Board of Public Health and the Northeast CT District Health Board. Dr. Gordon is also a contributing writer for the Villager Newspapers of Northeast Connecticut.
Dr. Gordon lives with his wife and their 12-year-old son in Woodstock, Connecticut. He is an Adult Fan of Legos, having an extensive Lego collection.
