NORWALK, CT - January 20, 2010) - Learning and attentional challenges have grown exponentially over the last decade. In Fairfield County, alone, 10.7% of public school students receive special education; and this statistic does not include those with ADD, ADHD, or children yet to be diagnosed. Parents as well as health and educational professionals are invited to attend an informative evening addressing this timely topic.
Dr. Robert Melillo, internationally recognized learning disabilities expert, will headline the event on Monday, February 1, 2010, between 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. at the Norwalk Inn, 99 East Avenue, Norwalk. Dr. Melillo will speak on a drug-free program for those with ADD, ADHD, OCD, Autism, Asperger’s, Tourette Syndrome, Dyslexia, learning disabilities, and spectrum disorders.
Dr. Melillo is a lecturer, author, researcher, and clinician in neurology, rehabilitation, neuropsychology, nutrition, and neuro-behavioral disorders in children. He created the Brain Balance Program and has co-founded Brian Balance Centers across the United States to help children improve academic, social, and behavioral functions using a multi-modal, non-medical approach. Dr. Mark Goldenberg, Executive Director of Connecticut’s First Brain Balance Achievement Center (15 Cross Street, Norwalk), will also be on hand at the event.
Among other publications, Dr. Melillo has authored a book specifically for parents and teachers, entitled Disconnected Kids: The Groundbreaking Approach for Children with Autism ADHD, Dyslexia and Other Neurological Disorders. The book asserts that an imbalance between the right and left sides of the brain creates a communication breakdown and is the underlying cause of learning challenges. Melillo’s Brain Balance Program -- a combination of physical and cognitive activities combined with nutritional changes -- aims to restore harmony among the brain’s hemispheres and to remediate the child’s issues. He has also written the textbook, Neurobehavioral Disorders of Childhood, an Evolutionary Perspective. In addition, Dr. Melillo has published two papers in Reviews of Neuroscience revealing, for the first time, a universal theory of Autism as a functional disconnection syndrome.
