At a recent visit to the WCTY 97.7 studios in Norwich, Karen Butler, who oversees Communications for the National MS Society, Connecticut chapter, presents 2011 National MS Society appreciation plaques to on-air personalities Shelly Martinez and Jimmy Lehn.

The station is a longtime partner with the chapter, helping to raise awareness and promoting its walk and bike events. The station also has a walk and bike team featuring WCTY staff and listeners. In 2011, WCTY 97.7 was recognized as New London’s Most Money Raised by a Company Team. The WCTY Walk MS team, captained by Shelly Martinez, raised $3,875.

Lehn, whose sister battles multiple sclerosis, has been involved with the chapter for many years, participating in both the walk and bike events. Last year, the Travelers Walk MS attracted more than 10,000 people and raised a record $1.36 million. The New London walk site, hosted at Mitchell College, attracted more than 500 people, who stepped out to raise $65,000.

The 2012 Travelers Walk MS, presented by North American Power, will be held Sunday, April 22, at one of 12 walk sites, including Mitchell College in New London. Media partners include the WCTY 97.7 Country Favorites, www.ctoutandabout.com and WTNH News 8.
