New Milford, CT - New Milford Hospital will host the next series of Strong Women™ Strong Bones fitness programs at three community locations starting in January. Each session affords seven weeks (2 classes per week) of exercise targeted to middle-aged and older women to increase strength, balance and flexibility, and is appropriate for both sedentary and active women.
Strong Women™ Strong Bones is a nationally recognized fitness program that was developed by Miriam Nelson, Ph.D., associate professor at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. The program is based upon years of research on how strength training and nutrition improve the health of women of all ages.
“Strength is a critical factor in living healthier, more active lives. Our research show that a program of strength training not only improves bone density, but reduces falls, improves arthritis symptoms and increases flexibility and strength,” says Dr. Nelson. Led by Lisa Marie Lee, an instructor certified to teach the program by Dr. Nelson after completing the Tufts University Strong Women, Strong Bones training in 2004. She is also a certified yoga instructor and massage therapist.
