This year's Heart & Soul Gala of the Norwalk Hospital Foundation will feature a special acoustic performance by Paul Simon, twelve-time Grammy Award winner. The Heart & Soul Gala will be held on Saturday evening, October 3, 2009 on the Norwalk Hospital campus. Proceeds will benefit patient care initiatives at the Hospital.
Paul Simon is in The Songwriter's Hall of Fame and Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame both as a member of Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist. His famous song, "Mrs. Robinson" from the motion picture, "The Graduate" is one of the top ten in The American Film Institute's 100 Years 100 Songs. In 2006, he was named as one of Time Magazine's "100 People Who Shape Our World." Other popular songs he wrote include "The Sound of Silence," "The Boxer" and "Bridged Over Troubled Water."
Paul Simon's philanthropic work includes co-founding The Children's Health Fund that provides care to poor and indigent children in urban and rural locations throughout the United States. In the wake of Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, this fund was a primary health source for the communities devastated by these storms. He is involved in a number of other charitable organizations and has been honored with several philanthropic awards.
"We are honored and thrilled to have Paul Simon perform at this year's Gala, sharing with us his time and talent," said Mary Franco, President of the Norwalk Hospital Foundation and Vice President of Public Affairs.
Co-chaired by Lauren Eason and Julie Murray, both of Norwalk, members of the 17th Annual Gala Committee include Kathryn Benedett Lupoli of Westport, Ann Blystone of Norwalk, Cathleen Crowley-Piscitell of Weston, Kat Curtin of Rowayton, Donna DiScala of Darien, Janet Dobos of Wilton, Gina Ely of Rowayton, Sheila Klein of New Canaan, Nancy Nelson of Norwalk, Allison Passero of Norwalk, Carole Seligson of Greens Farms and Teri Vineyard of Rowayton.
"As a not-for-profit community hospital serving southwestern Connecticut, we have relied on the philanthropic support of our community to provide the high quality and patient centered care that our area residents deserve," Mrs. Franco added. "We are so grateful and so excited about this year's event because of Paul Simon's special performance!"
