Many people easily gain five pounds during the holidays. Did you know that five pounds is the equivalent of 17,400 extra calories, or looked at another way, about 540 extra calories for 30 days? Come join Norwalk Hospital's Chef Jeff Schack who will do a cooking demonstration and teach us how to avoid holiday over consumption by learning how to transform regular holiday recipes into healthy holiday recipes. This event will take place on Thursday, November 29th, at 5:45 pm in the Richard S. Perkin Auditorium of Norwalk Hospital.
“We are asking people to arrive by 5:45 pm as the cooking demonstration will begin promptly at 6 pm,” said program coordinator Tamara Swett, Registered Dietitian, who runs the Bariatric Nutrition Support Group at Norwalk Hospital. Ms. Swett is involved in the childhood and adult weight loss programs offered by the hospital, and provides individualized nutrition counseling for patients with a variety of medical conditions including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and obesity.
Jeff Schack, who will do the cooking demonstration on November 29th, is a graduate of the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, and has an associate of occupational science degree from Culinary Cordon Blue Arts. Previously, he was chef manager for the Compass Group of Aetna Insurance, and prior to Norwalk Hospital was the production chef of gourmet foods at Stew Leonard's.
