The second-annual Bruce’s Ride cycling fundraiser has been scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at the Owenego Beach and Tennis Club in Branford. This year’s event will benefit the Hospital of Saint Raphael’s Looking Forward, a support and wellness program for cancer patients and their loved ones.
Steven Angelo, M.D., director of Saint Raphael’s Hospitalist Program, is chairing Bruce’s Ride, which is named for his late father-in-law, Bruce Pantani, a beloved Branford native and building contractor. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Saint Raphael’s Looking Forward Program, a wellness, support and education program that helps cancer patients and their loved ones deal with the issues related to cancer treatment.
Bruce’s Ride offers participation for bicyclists at three levels: a family fun ride through Pawson Park, a 25-mile course along shoreline roads of Branford and Guilford and a 62-mile (metric century) course for more experienced participants. The event begins at 6:45 a.m. with registration for the metric century ride, followed by staggered start times for the family fun ride and 25-mile ride. A picnic-style lunch follows for all participants at 12:30 p.m.
Registration to participate as a cyclist is $50 for adults and $25 for children 13 to 18 years of age. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult. Adult riders are required to generate $150 in contributions; there is no fundraising donation minimum for children. All cyclists will receive a commemorative T-shirt, complimentary refreshments and road assistance throughout the course, a continental breakfast and lunch.
