Over 100 models will hit the runway on Saturday, March 13 at Stamford’s Palace Theater during the fourth annual “Fashion From The Heart” event. An evening of fashion, comedy and live entertainment will educate attendees about the prevalence of heart disease, stroke and diabetes among the African-American and Hispanic communities. The show, produced by Her Game, 2 Inc., will showcase 14 fashion designers’ latest children’s, women’s, men’s and plus-sized fashion collections. New to the catwalk this year is a line of couture hats designed by Josephine Steward and modeled by members of the Fairfield County Chapter of The LINKS, Incorporated. In addition, comedian, TV and movie star Steve Harvey will have his collection of men’s wear and boys’ fashions represented for a second consecutive year.

Joining Steward and Harvey is a unique selection of emerging designers, including: A-Doms, Big Girls United (BGU), Cantoire by Carlos Reeves, Chila For Fun, CooGi, Steven Daniel, Her Game 2 Apparel, La Diva Lamonte, Pastry, Rocawear, Janice Stofer, and Terrieion.

The audience will also enjoy comedic theatrical skits, called Theater Shorts, created to inform about heart disease and prevention. This year’s sketches will include “Jeopardy: What is Health?” – where common Jeopardy questions will reveal your health smarts – and “Exercise Myths” – in which a crazed 1980s fitness instructor will lead a 2010 aerobics class awry. Stamford residents Trina M. Britt and James E. Hinton, Jr., scripted and directed the satirical spoofs in collaboration with Stamford Hospital’s Chief of Cardiology Steven F. Horowitz, MD.

Also, during the show, coordinators for “Fashion From The Heart” will honor Stamford Hospital’s Associate Chair of Medicine Dr. Maria Maldonado, F.A.C.P., the Stamford Emergency Medical Services (SEMS) and News 12 Host and Producer Gwendolyn Taylor Edwards for their life-saving efforts to build awareness about heart disease, diabetes and stroke in the African-American and Hispanic communities.

This year’s non-profit event will feature live music by three vocalists and recording artists: Norwalk native and Bridgeport resident Tangela, a former “American Idol” contestant; Anna Harrington, who was featured in Oprah’s Karaoke Challenge; and Yvette Michelle, whose nationally broadcast R&B single “Every Day, Every Night” went Gold in 1995.

The one-night, fashion and comedy extravaganza will take place on Saturday, March 13 from 8 – 10 p.m. at the Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street in Stamford. A dessert reception will follow the event. Individual tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling (203) 504-8400. For more information, visit www.fashionfromtheheart.org or email info@fashionfromtheheart.org.
