DANBURY, CT - Chaplains from the Department of Spiritual Care at Norwalk Hospital will be available at the Norwalk Department of Motor Vehicles during Healthcare Decisions Week April 17-21, 2017 from 10 am to 3 pm to create awareness and provide educational materials about the importance of making healthcare decisions.
A presentation about “Having the Conversation” on Healthcare Decisions will take place at Norwalk Hospital on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 and Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in the fifth floor patio room. Staff will be available to provide individual assistance with healthcare decision forms. The program is free and open to the public.
The Diebold Family Cancer Center at New Milford Hospital located at 21 Elm Street will host a free skin cancer screening on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 9 am to 12 noon by appointment only. The purpose of the screening is early detection and prevention of skin cancer. A board certified dermatologist affiliated with Dermatology Associates of Western Connecticut will perform the skin cancer screenings. Take advantage of the opportunity to benefit from this preventive health screening and help us encourage other to get screened for skin cancer, use sunscreen regularly and practice skin self-exams monthly. Norwalk Hospital is offering a free smoking cessation program beginning on Thursday, May 18, 2017 in the third floor respiratory classroom in the Section of Pulmonary Medicine at the hospital. The program consists of six weekly sessions in the evening at 6 pm. The instructor is Beverly Jacoby, registered respiratory therapist. The program provides a general knowledge related to smoking, a plan of action to stop smoking and social support in the effort of quitting. Registration is required. A free community program on “Having the Conversation,” making informed decisions about mental health, physical health and end-of-life care, will take place during May is Mental Health Awareness Month on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, from 7 to 8:15 pm at the Norwalk Public Library. The program is sponsored by the Department of Spiritual Care at Norwalk Hospital, The CT Legal Rights Project and the Southwest Regional Mental Health Board.
The Goldstone Caregiver Center at Danbury Hospital offers a free Bereavement Support Group fully funded by philanthropy based on the Grief Recovery Method®. The support group is facilitated by Beryl Knudsen, BA, BSN, M.Div., a certified grief recovery specialist who also works as a staff chaplain in the Department of Spiritual Care at Danbury Hospital. This is not a faith-based, but is suitable for all populations and ages, including the elderly. The Bereavement Support Group meets regularly for eight weeks. The next Bereavement Support Group at The Goldstone Caregiver Center at Danbury Hospital starts Thursday, June 16, 2017 from 7 to 9 pm.
