DANBURY, CT - Danbury Hospital and New Milford Hospital, affiliates of Western Connecticut Health Network, is hosting its Fourth Annual Spirit of Women Day of Dance on Saturday, February 23, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza, 18 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury. The day begins with a light breakfast and featured guest speaker Deborah Weymouth, senior vice president and executive director of New Milford Hospital. She will present “Shedding the Shoulds,” sharing her insights about balancing life’s priorities, focusing on what’s most important, choosing your battles, not feeling guilty, and focusing on your most important asset – YOU! Then, meet medical experts and participate in educational and interactive wellness demonstrations and screenings. Comedienne Linda Belt will end the day with a fun, energizing lunch routine, "Laugh for Better Health,” offering her unique thoughts on being a woman in today’s modern world. Mothers, daughters, sisters and friends, there’s something to laugh about in every aspect of our lives!
Interactive wellness sessions include:
Session I - 10-11 a.m.
“Bone and Joint Health”
Orthopedic Specialist John Mullen, MD, of New Milford Hospital, will provide strategies for maintaining strength, flexibility and function throughout life, along with an overview on health care options for painful joint conditions.
“Matters of the Heart”
Sumit Tickoo, MD, a specialist in medical and interventional cardiology at Danbury Hospital, will share tips for maintaining a healthy heart, from prevention through healthy lifestyles to advanced treatment options for a variety of cardiac health concerns.
“All About Breast Care”
Danbury Hospital Breast Surgeon and Director of the Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN) Breast Program Valerie Staradub, MD, will bring her vast experience in medical and surgical breast care to offer a complete overview of services and support resources for women with concerns about breast disease. She will highlight the teams and technology that make WCHN an ideal place for breast care expertise and support.
Session II – 12:15-1 p.m.
“A Moving Experience for Your Heart”
Exercise Physiologist Molly Gill of Danbury Hospital’s Marcus Cardiac Rehabilitation Center will demonstrate exercises to boost your strength and flexibility for better cardiac health.
“Somatic Movement”
Fitness and Strong Women/Strong Bones Coordinator Lisa Marie Lee will conduct a stress-reducing session to limber up the body and help participants release unhealthy tension.
“Let’s Cook, Let’s Eat!”
New Milford Hospital’s Dining Services Manager Kerry Gold and Registered Dietitian Nancy Salem will perform a cooking demonstration with healthful recipes and tips for more nutritious, more enjoyable meals.
