In her new full-time position, Cavanna will manage visual arts and education grants, and continue to develop WAC’s growing education and outreach program. “One of our goals is to really connect with the teachers so that we can incorporate some of their curriculum goals with the school group tours,” said Cavanna. Cavanna said she also is eager to integrate the outreach and education programs established at WAC in the last five years. “One of the most exciting aspects of the Westport Arts Center is that there is a real vision for access to the arts for all youth. Sometimes, it can be difficult for institutions to mediate between different types of school communities. I am very impressed with WAC’s mission to work with both neighboring and local communities. The idea of ‘access for all’ is a significant one.” A graduate of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, Cavanna also holds an MA in art history from Boston University and has worked at the Museum of Modern Art, the Fogg and Sackler Museums at Harvard and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Currently, she also teaches art history at Salve Regina University in Newport. Thirteen school groups—more than 300 children—visited the COLOR IN 3D exhibit this spring. Students and other visitors can schedule interactive guided tours of all upcoming WAC exhibitions. The Westport Arts Center will prepare curriculum materials that aid in making meaningful connections between the exhibition and school curricula. The Westport Arts Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating arts experiences that contribute to individual growth and enrich the community. The Westport Arts Center is supported with funds from The Artur and Heida Hermanns Holde Foundation, Inc., Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, National Endowment for the Arts, Connecticut Light & Power, Fairfield County Bank, Gault, Inc., Main Street Resources, U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, and Westport Resources. The Westport Arts Center’s gallery is open seven days a week, Monday-Friday from 10-4, and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon – 4.
