Whether you walk on two legs or four, you’re invited to join this year’s Blue Buffalo “Paws for the Cause” dog walk in Ridgefield on Sunday, October 3, in support of the fourth annual Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR) Donofrio Family Animal Shelter. The fun begins at 1:30 p.m. at Ballard Park, followed by a one-mile walk through town at 2:30 p.m. and then a festive family-style celebration in the park. Downtown streets will be closed for the safety of the walkers, who last year numbered an estimated 1,000 people and their dogs.

The celebration includes an old fashioned Bar-B-Q hosted by Chef Marc of Ridgefield Academy and tastings from Ross’ Bread, No. 109 Cheese & Wine, Southwest Café, Ridgefield Organics and The Cake Box. Music will be provided by Carly and Eliza Rae, an acoustic duo, and Hot in the Pocket, a rockin’ jazz band. Children will be treated to a zany dog demonstration sure to make everyone smile.
For more information or to register, visit http://www.roar-ridgefield.org.
This year, pre-registration is simplified. There is one price, $25, for an individual or family, and as many dogs as they choose to walk. Same-day registration is $30. Walking “teams” may be created by friends, school classes, scouts, church and civic groups, or local businesses. ROAR provides all who register with an easy-to-build Web page that can be used to solicit fundraising pledges from friends and family. Funds go to support the work of ROAR, which rescues dogs and cats and places them in loving area homes. All registered participants will receive a bag filled with gifts and treats.
The 2010 Paws for the Cause T-shirts may be purchased in advance at the ROAR Shelter or Young’s of Ridgefield. Those who register and raise at least $250 will receive a free T-shirt.
The lead sponsor is Blue Buffalo, the Wilton-based pet food company that provides ROAR animals with nutritious food. Other sponsors include Union Savings Bank, Deloitte, BMW of Ridgefield, Ancona’s Market, Reader’s Digest, Coca-Cola, Ridgefield Parks & Recreation, Chef Marc, Rebecca Murphy Photography, maida design, The Marketplace at Copps Hill Common, and The Ridgefield Press.
