Costumed pets and their owners are invited to participate in the fourth annual Howl & Prowl parade and costume contest held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 29 in Greenwich, CT. The rain date is Oct. 30.
Participants gather in the Island Beach parking lot (Exit 3 on 95) where they can view exhibits, hear music, find food and beverages, participate in activities to be followed by the parade which will go up and down a portion of Greenwich Ave, stopping at various Treat stops and returning to Island Beach parking lot for more fun. Ann Nyberg, WTNH-TV, will emcee the event.
The first round of judging for pets entered in the costume contest will take place during the parade. The semi-finalists will be judged in the park and the finalists will be selected after a runway walk on the stage where audience and judges favorites will determine the winners!
Adopt-A-Dog, Inc., a local non-profit rescue, shelter and adoption agency dedicated to finding good homes for adoptable dogs and cats, and Pet Pantry Warehouse, the leading pet supply store in Greenwich, are sponsoring the event. Members of the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce (event partner) are participating in the festivities. National and local pet product manufacturers (Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Stella & Chewy’s, Pedigree, Natural Balance, Purina Pro, Nature’s Variety, halo, Natura Pet, and others), have also offered support for Adopt-A-Dog at the Howl & Prowl event.
Participation in the parade is free. The registration fee for entry in the costume contest is $20 and includes the All TREATS/No Tricks reusable shopping bag to fill with free samples of great pet and people products offered by sponsors at the event. All proceeds will go to support Adopt-A-Dog’s programs. Registration forms are available at Pet Pantry Warehouse locations in Greenwich, Rye, and Larchmont as well as on-line at www.ppwpet.com and www.adoptadog.org.
There will be a pet costume contest with five prizes that will include ribbons as well as valuable gift certificates to the Pet Pantry Warehouse: 1st place ($150), 2nd place ($100), 3rd place ($75), and runner up ($50). There will also be a $100 prize awarded to the best combined costume including pets and their owners together, so be sure you dress up too! Additional prizes can be seen on the websites.
A free drawing will be held on site. One winner will receive free dog food for a year from Pet Pantry Warehouse.
Parking for the event is available in the Island Beach Parking lot at no cost. Overflow parking is available at the Greenwich Plaza building near the Greenwich Railroad Station on the main parking deck between the buildings.
