The First Annual Pet Tail Video Awards gathered animal lovers from all over Fairfield County for a night of laughs that only our four-legged companions can deliver.
The event, which was a benefit for Outreach to Pets in Need and Stamford Animal Care and Control, was held at the Avon Theatre in Stamford on Thursday and featured a reception with a silent auction, awards presentation and a champagne after-party at BUtterfield 8 in downtown Stamford.
And the winners were:
Best Real Life Tail – Beau Relaxing – Sonia Lieto (New York)
Best Musical Tail – OPIN Etude – Karen Wells (New York)
Best Belly Rubbin Comedy – A Journey Through Cinema – Chelsea Dunaway (New York)
Best Short Tail – My Best Fried – A Love That Will Never Die – Steve Zaragoza (California)
Best Pawformance – Canine Discrimination – Ron Scutti (Connecticut)
The Best in Show winner was a video submitted by Nicholas Vitale and Alison & Caroline Baird
Jon Lawrence, president of OPIN, officially opened the ceremony and welcomed the crowd. He thanked the organizers and all volunteers who continuously make a difference in the lives of shelter animals.
Mr. Lawrence then introduced one of the event’s special guests, Stamford Mayor Mike Pavia, who expressed his affinity towards animals and committed to his continuous support for the efforts of animals rescuers in the city. Mayor Pavia also presented the Volunteer Appreciation Awards who went to four distinguished local animal shelter volunteers – Cissy Asktrolko, Andreas Fuchs, Alexandra Perimenis and Carla White.
Channel 12 Anchor and Pet Talk host Lauren Collier, Susan Linker from Our Companions Domestic Animal Sanctuary and Rachelle Kucera Mehra from the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, where also special guests at the Awards.
Stamford Plus magazine, The Avon Theatre, People’s United Bank and David’s Soundview Catering were the main sponsors of the event.
