The dogs and cats of The Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR) Donofrio Family Animal Shelter will wag and purr their appreciation for animal lovers who participate in the organization’s 2009 Paws for the Cause 2009 ROAR Dog Walk on October 4.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Ridgefield’s Ballard Park, the walk will continue up Main Street, loop through town and return to the park for a grand celebration with live music from The Christopher Robin Band, a hilarious performance by Johnny Peers & the Muttville Comix and great food from Chef Marc.

Union Savings Bank is exclusive bank sponsor and presenting sponsor of the Johnny Peers & the Muttville Comix performance.

Registration cost is $20 for the first family member and dog; $15 for each additional dog and $5 for each additional family member. Participants may customize a fundraising Web page to encourage sponsors of their walk. The dog who raises the most money in sponsorships will be photographed for a t-shirt for the 2010 Paws for the Cause walk and be invited to help lead the 2010 walk. The primary walker for each dog raising $250 or more will receive a free Paws for the Cause T-shirt. Each registered dog and his/her human will a free bag with great surprises from sponsors. Visit http://www.roar-ridgefield.org/fund.html for information and registration details.

Proceeds from the October 4 Paws for a Cause walk will support ROAR’s shelter for dogs and cats, ROAR Therapy Dogs, spay/neuter and educational efforts.

About ROAR

Named for the Donofrio family in recognition of their generous support, the ROAR Donofrio Family Animal Shelter for cats and dogs opened in 2005. Its objective is to be a “model shelter”— the model being the way we treat our own family dogs and cats. During the past four years, ROAR has rescued almost 2,000 dogs and cats and placed them in loving homes. Through the generous, enthusiastic help of volunteers, business partners, local veterinarians, and staff, every cat and dog receives the same medical care, nutrition, exercise, attention and love given to family animals. All are spayed and neutered (or given a certificate for the procedure if too young) before leaving the shelter. For more information, visit http://www.roar-ridgefield.org/fund.html.
