ESSEX, CT - Congressional candidate Janet Peckinpaugh lambasted Congressman Joe Courtney and the Congressional leadership in Washington today upon learning about the latest side effect of federal inaction on appropriations bills. Congress has failed to pass bills appropriating money to fund numerous government agencies, postponing the votes on spending bills until after next Tuesday's elections and after voters have passed judgment on the performance of the 111th Congress.
"This is an outrage," said Peckinpaugh. "Our men and women in uniform can’t do their jobs effectively because Congressman Courtney and his leadership in Washington have failed on their Article I, Section 8 Constitutional responsibilities to appropriate money."
The Associated Press published an article today describing the plight of the military 'Air Bridge' that provides aerial refueling services to aircraft traveling to and from Afghanistan, Iraq, and other American posts around the world[i]. The Air Force is reported to have requested $378 million to continue the program but Congressional inaction has created uncertainty for the men and women in uniform doing the work.
"This Congress can’t even do its own job right," concluded Peckinpaugh. "How can we expect them to create a climate for creating jobs across the country?"
Janet Peckinpaugh is the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress from the Second Congressional District, which covers the 65 towns of eastern Connecticut.
