DANBURY, CT - Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton today announced his candidacy for Connecticut Governor in 2014 at events in Danbury. He met with and took questions from members of the media at the Holiday Inn Danbury at 10am and then held an announcement rally for friends and supporters at 7pm at the Crowne Plaza Danbury.

“I’m running for governor because the status quo isn’t working for too many people in Connecticut,” said Boughton. “Under Dan Malloy’s leadership, the state’s economy has been stuck in neutral while electricity bills, traffic congestion, and tax rates have all gotten worse. I’m running to put people over politics and get Connecticut back on track.”

Mayor Boughton is the longest-serving mayor in Danbury’s history despite the city’s nearly 3-1 Democratic voter registration advantage.

The seven-term Mayor will seek the Republican Party’s nomination for governor. “We’ve allowed intra-party battles to divide us and make it impossible to win statewide. We have to bring the Connecticut Republican Party together again as a team and start winning again,” Boughton added.
