Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele announced that his campaign for Governor yesterday received a host of endorsements from Republican leaders throughout Connecticut. The endorsements include:
· State Senator Michael McLachlan of Danbury
· State Representative Jason Perillo of Shelton
· Ed Munster, RTC Chair of Haddam and twice the Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 2nd District
· Former-State Senator Rob Russo from the 22nd District, representing Bridgeport, Monroe and Trumbull
· Arthur Manion, Republican State Central Committee
· Mary Porter, Republican State Central Committee
· Rich Tutunjian, Republican State Central Committee
· The Haddam RTC
· The Shelton RTC Delegation
“Mike has the right ideas, the right values and he is ready to make tough decisions about cutting state spending and making government smaller,” Senator McLachlan said. “While companies have closed and people have lost their jobs, state government is one of the very few organizations in Connecticut that has actually grown in size during the past two years. Mike will bring something to the budget debate that has been missing recently – the common sense to know that you can’t spend more than you have.”
“The Democrats in the legislature continue to increase spending, borrowing and bonding – it’s the Triple Crown of debt, we can’t afford it and Mike will put a stop to it,” State Representative Jason Perillo said.
“Mike Fedele will bring strong and principled leadership to the job of Governor,” Russo said. “We are at a critical point in Connecticut and Mike will stand up for what is right and make the tough decisions to turn Connecticut around,” Russo said. “Mike has the political experience to identify our problems and the business experience necessary to provide the solutions we desperately need in these tough economic times.”
“My campaign is building tremendous momentum as we approach the Convention and people learn more about the candidates,” Fedele said. “This election is too important to be decided by slogans and sound bites -- voters want more than the platitudes and clichés of some of my competitors. They want a leader with real ideas, new approaches and detailed, specific plans for solving Connecticut’s problems, like my plan for “Cutting Spending and Shrinking the Bureaucracy.”
Earlier in the day, Mike Fedele announced that he selected Mark Boughton to be his running mate in the campaign for Governor. In just the last week, Fedele has been endorsed by former 4th District Congressman Chris Shays, House Republican Leader Larry Cafero, Mayor John Harkins of Stratford and two former chairmen of the Connecticut Republican Party: Chris DePino, the former State Representative from New Haven, and George D. Gallo of Middletown.
Fedele has now earned more than 100 endorsements statewide. More than a third of the Republican members of the General Assembly have endorsed Fedele and he has gained the support of half of Connecticut's Republican Mayors and First Selectmen. Lieutenant Governor Fedele has also gained the endorsements of 27 "super-delegates" to the Republican Convention on May 22, 2010.
