Gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley (R) conceded the election to Governor Dannel P. Malloy (D) in a message to supporters in the early afternoon hours on Wednesday.
With more than 98 percent of precincts reporting the tally was 51-48 percent in favor of Malloy.
"We did significantly better in our cities than in 2010," said Foley in his message.
Malloy's win is one of the few that Democrats scored during Tuesday's election as Republicans gained control of both chambers of U.S. Congress and took a number of gubernatorial races, including the one in the traditionally blue Massachusetts.
In Connecticut, Democrats retained control of both chambers of the legislature.
