Former Chief Rilling to announce mayoral candidacy on Sunday

NORWALK, CT - Former Police Chief and lifelong Norwalk resident Harry Rilling will officially announce his candidacy for Mayor of Norwalk on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3:00PM, at the Norwalk Hilton Garden Inn at 560 Main Avenue. The event is open to the public, and all concerned citizens of Norwalk are encouraged to attend.

Mr. Rilling will outline his vision for the City of Norwalk, including plans to restore confidence in our schools, spur economic development, and restore civility, transparency, and accountability in government.

Mr. Rilling is a lifelong resident of Norwalk, and is both the parent and grandparent of former and current students of Norwalk's public school system. He has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to civic service throughout his life, and he will draw upon his unique perspectives on the evolving challenges facing Norwalk should he be elected Mayor.

More About Harry Rilling

Mr. Rilling is a member of the Norwalk Zoning Commission, and has been an active participant in civic life in Norwalk - both professionally and personally - since returning from four years in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Rilling is a graduate of Norwalk High School, a summa cum laude graduate of Iona College, and he has a Master's in Public Administration from the University of New Haven. He served 41 years on the Norwalk Police Department, including 17 years as the Chief of Police until his retirement in 2012. He is currently employed as a compliance manager in the private sector.

Mr. Rilling was elected President of both the Fairfield County and Connecticut Chiefs of Police Associations, and served as Connecticut delegate to the International Chiefs Association. He is highly regarded nationally as an expert in the organization and performance of local police departments, and has led quality and organizational assessments of the departments of 25 other municipalities. In addition, Mr. Rilling has served on the boards of the Vitam Youth Treatment Center, the Norwalk Cities in Schools Program, and the Human Services Council. He was Assistant District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Commission on Race Relations, and has been active in the Mid-Fairfield Substance Abuse Coalition. In addition, he was an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Norwalk Community College.
