Free “Rudy” film screening and celebrity panel discussion

“We’re gonna go go go go go go, and we’re not gonna stop ‘til we get across that goal line!” That immortal Knute Rockne quote, from the inspiring classic film “Rudy,” will take on a new context Sat., Feb. 27, in a special free admission screening at the Ridgefield Playhouse to benefit the gubernatorial exploratory campaign of Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi.

A presentation of the 1993 film will be followed by a round-table discussion featuring actor-director Giancarlo Esposito, EMMY Award-winning television journalist Ira Joe Fisher and radio host Lisa Wexler.

“Rudy,” starring Sean Astin, is the story of a young man who dreams of playing for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and who, through sheer heart and determination, achieves it. Television documentary filmmaker Joseph Consentino, artistic director of the Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society, sees a parallel to Ridgefield’s own first selectman. “The early polls imply Rudy Marconi doesn’t have much of a chance,” he said. “But the pollsters don’t know Rudy Marconi.”

The film will begin at 7:30pm. Admission is free, but contributions to the Marconi for Connecticut Exploratory Campaign will be welcomed. For more information, call Marconi for Connecticut headquarters at 203-244-9880.
