The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute today released results from a statewide poll on the Connecticut Senate Race. McMahon campaign spokesman Ed Patru released the following statement in response:

“The growing momentum behind Linda is real and undeniable. Since Linda entered this race, more than 10,000 volunteers have signed on to this campaign, we’ve released 37 endorsements so far and many more will be released in the days and weeks to come, and our internal polling numbers now show us slightly ahead of Rob Simmons. Republicans want to change the direction in Washington, they know that won’t happen by sending yet another career politician to the Senate, and they increasingly realize Linda is the only candidate who will be able to defeat Dick Blumenthal.

“Since Linda entered this race four months ago, Rob Simmons’ numbers have fallen precipitously and the 38-point lead he once enjoyed has evaporated. As Quinnipiac Poll Director Doug Schwartz noted: ‘Rob Simmons must be wondering what happened.’ Clearly voters have lost confidence in career politicians and establishment insiders. This election will be a referendum on Washington’s failed and deeply unpopular economic policies, virtually all of which are indistinguishable from Dick Blumenthal’s positions. That will inevitably bring his numbers down in the months to come.”
