Former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy has defeated Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont in the Democratic primaries in the race for governor of Connecticut.
Low turnout amid a hot August day was the headline Tuesday while the two candidates campaigned until late into election day.
Malloy had been trailing Lamont in the polls throughout the whole race, often by a double-digit margin, up until the latest polls, released just days ago when the candidates were in a virtual tie.
At the general elections in November, Malloy will face one of the three Republican candidates - Tom Foley, Michael Fedele or Oz Griebel.
