STAMFORD, CT - Tuesday, Chris Meek, candidate for Congress in Connecticut's 4th Congressional District, commented on reports coming out of Washington D.C. that President Obama and Congressional Democrats are planning to propose a .5% pay raise for federal employees.
"There were over 35,000 people in Fairfield County unemployed in November according to the Connecticut Department of Labor and thousands more underemployed and doing what they can to make ends meet," said Chris Meek. "While these people struggle, Democrats in Washington are putting politics first to protect the bureaucrats in Washington they need to win reelection."
"We have a $15 trillion federal deficit, 13 million Americans looking for work and all Democrats want to do is put Washington first," said Meek. "Rather than focusing on growing public sector jobs, Congress needs to do more to help small businesses and local employers put more people on their payroll and relieve the burden on local communities."
