Chris Murphy (D) won the race for the U.S. Senate against Republican opponent Linda McMahon.

The long election battle was marked by strong attacks from both sides by both campaigns as well as by third party political coalitions.

President Barack Obama (D) was projected to win his bid for reelection against challenger Mitt Romney (R).
