Peckinpaugh pledges support for Congressional term limits

Janet Peckinpaugh, a Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut's 2nd Congressional District, pledged to introduce legislation to create a Constitutional Amendment which would limit the number of terms a United States Congressman and United States Senator can serve in those positions.

During a meeting of before the Colchester Republicans, Peckinpaugh distinguished herself from other candidates by stating, unequivocally, her support for a constitutional amendment that limits the terms of both Senators and Members of the House of Representatives.

"I'm going to Washington to change things. Serving in Congress is a privilege. Our founding fathers saw service in Congress as public service, not a career. The fact that many members of Congress have been serving for 20, 30, 40 or more years should be cause for great concern" said Peckinpaugh.

Peckinpaugh is proposing that the people of the United States be allowed to vote on a Constitutional Amendment which would impose a 2 term (12 year) limit on US Senators and a 6 term (12 year) limits on members of the House of Representatives.

"I have great faith in the people of America to choose their own destiny; to determine how their government should function, and whether or not the people we elect to Congress should, at some point in their Congressional careers, be required to go back into the work place and live by the laws they have created. The only people who are opposed to term limits, as near as I can tell, are the politicians. It is time to return our government to a citizen legislature, as it was intended" Peckinpaugh said.

At the same meeting of the Colchester Republicans, Daria Novak, stated that she opposes term limits. She said that elections serve as term limits.

"Unfortunately, Ms. Novak fails to grasp a fundamental problem that exists in Washington", said Peckinpaugh, "the fact that massive amounts of power are placed in the hands of a select few for decade upon decade. I say it's time to give the power back to the people of America" concluded Peckinpaugh.

Janet Peckinpaugh, a reporter and businesswoman, is a candidate in the Republican Party primary on August 10, 2010.
