HARTFORD, CT - State Representative Arthur J. O’Neill (R-69), Deputy Republican Leader-at-Large, stood among House and Senate legislative leadership Wednesday to usher in the first day of the legislative session, and is revealing his 2012 agenda of priorities.
“First and foremost, Connecticut must get its fiscal house in order. Our bond rating has been downgraded, our unfunded pension liabilities amount to tens of billions of dollars with no meaningful reform in sight and we are – despite last year’s historic tax increase – projected to end the year with a $145 million deficit. Majority leadership must be held accountable and lower the size and scope of state government,” Rep. O’Neill said.
He added “Another important issue is condominium voting reform. As it stands, state law requires condo associations to have 51 percent of all unit owners vote against the budget in order to reject it, as opposed to 51 percent of all unit owners voting, essentially rendering non-voters automatically counted as yes votes. We must correct this unfair and illogical policy.”
Rep. O’Neill, who has served in the state legislature for twenty four years, is a Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee and is the House Deputy Republican Leader-at-Large. He looks forward to continuing to represent the traditions and values of the Towns of Bridgewater, Roxbury, Southbury and Washington in the General Assembly.
