In an open letter to the people of Connecticut, several Republicans today highlighted their strong support for U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal while laying out serious concerns regarding Republican nominee Linda McMahon.

“We are putting aside partisanship to support and vote for Richard Blumenthal because we know we can count on him to fight for us in Washington. We don’t agree with him on every issue, but we know him to have guts and know-how, and a proven track record of delivering for our state,” the six Republicans wrote.

They continued, “Linda McMahon presents her business experience as her principal qualification for office and we find that experience instead to be disqualifying. She has repeatedly demonstrated unacceptable values and practices in that business, including the marketing of extreme violence, abusive treatment of women, and sex to young children. She refuses, even now, to acknowledge the long-term health risks of steroid use, despite medical evidence.”

The full letter is below.

In addition to the letter, the Blumenthal campaign today also announced that more than 75 Republicans have pledged their support and started “Republicans for Blumenthal.”

FULL LETTER:

An Open Letter to the People of Connecticut:

As proud Republicans, we write to announce our support for Richard Blumenthal for U.S. Senate, and to encourage other Republicans to join us. We are putting aside partisanship to support and vote for Richard Blumenthal because we know we can count on him to fight for us in Washington. We don’t agree with him on every issue, but we know him to have guts and know-how, and a proven track record of delivering for our state.

We cannot support our Party’s nominee Linda McMahon. We do not believe she has the right qualifications or experience to serve in the U.S. Senate, particularly now when Connecticut needs a strong, effective advocate fighting for us in Washington.

Linda McMahon presents her business experience as her principal qualification for office and we find that experience instead to be disqualifying. She has repeatedly demonstrated unacceptable values and practices in that business, including the marketing of extreme violence, abusive treatment of women, and sex to young children. She refuses, even now, to acknowledge the long-term health risks of steroid use, despite medical evidence.

Two leading voices in the Republican Party, former Congressman Rob Simmons and National Review editor Rich Lowry, have echoed many of our concerns.

When asked if Linda McMahon was ready to be a Senator, Rob Simmons responded “I don’t think she has any idea what the job is all about and I don’t say that in a mean way, I say that objectively.”

Mr. Lowry wrote “The Republican, Linda McMahon, is the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, which is to the popular culture what the BP spill is to the Gulf of Mexico — a relentless gusher of pollution.”

We will not be bought by Linda McMahon’s $50 million campaign of negative attacks and implications of “politics as usual.” We know her business record, we know she lacks the experience and judgment we need in the U.S. Senate. Most importantly, we know Richard Blumenthal. Given the serious challenges facing our state and country, we believe Connecticut needs a U.S. Senator with the judgment and know-how to fight for us and that’s why we are supporting Richard Blumenthal.
