SIMSBURY – First Selectwoman Mary Glassman escorted fellow Democrat George Jepsen through the Simsbury Farmers Market on Hopmeadow Street Thursday and between the cider and apples and winter squash gave him her endorsement for Connecticut Attorney General.
“George Jepsen has proven himself as a lawyer and legislative leader. I am proud to endorse his efforts to become Connecticut’s next Attorney General,” said Glassman, an attorney who twice ran as a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, most recently as Ned Lamont’s running mate in the August Democratic primary.
“George sees what I see: that Connecticut businesses need help to compete; that we need more jobs in Connecticut and that the natural and historic resources that make our state unique need to be protected,” Glassman said. “He’s the right person for this important job,” she said.
Jepsen said he valued Glassman’s endorsement, both personally and professionally. “Mary has been a friend, an adviser and a strong voice among Connecticut Democrats. She is well-respected as a leader of her community and the Capitol region. I look forward to working with her to make our state what it can become,” Jepsen said.
Jepsen, of Ridgefield, has been a practicing lawyer for 26 years and spent 16 years in the Connecticut General Assembly, six of them as Senate majority leader. His leadership is recognized by both Democrats and Republicans on issues of civil rights, domestic violence, the rights of women, banning assault weapons, clean air, clean water and protecting open space and farmland preservation.
Glassman is serving her sixth term as first selectman in Simsbury, which was ranked recently among the Top 100 Best Places To Live in America by Money Magazine. She also serves as treasurer of the Capitol Region Council of Governments and as an executive board member of the Connecticut Council of Municipalities.
