BERLIN, CT - Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) crews are responding to power outages caused by record-breaking snowfall and high winds. Approximately 35,000 CL&P customers are without power as a result of damage caused by the blizzard.
“Road conditions are hazardous and have made travel difficult for our line workers and tree workers,” said Bill Quinlan, CL&P Senior Vice President of Emergency Preparedness. “We will continue working around the clock and expect to make strong progress in the harder hit southeastern part of the state; however, some customers may be without power for a day or more.”
As crews are dispatched to make specific repairs, the estimated restoration times for those repairs will be updated under the “My Outage Status” link at www.cl-p.com and at 800-286-2000. When those specific restoration estimates become available, CL&P will also be making periodic calls to update customers.
Safety is always the top priority and carbon monoxide poisoning is a serious risk. Any customer using a generator should make sure it has been installed properly and is only used outdoors. CL&P and its sister company, Yankee Gas also remind customers to keep natural gas meters and outdoor appliance vents clear of snow.
With very cold temperatures predicted for tonight, CL&P also reminds customers to stay safe and never use a stove or grill as a heating source. Shelter information is available by calling 2-1-1 or visiting www.211ct.org.
