Hartford, CT - Due to the severe impact of ice storm Alfred and the state’s pending request for federal disaster declaration, Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Commissioner Kevin B. Sullivan today said that certain tax filings and payments would be extended to November 15, 2011.

Commissioner Sullivan said, “After consultation with Governor Malloy, I am announcing that the deadline for all Connecticut tax filings or payments due on or after October 30, 2011 is extended to November 15, 2011. Given the unprecedented extent of this storm, especially the power outages affecting homes and businesses across the state, this extension is only fair.”

Commissioner Sullivan said the extension applies to all Connecticut-based taxpayers, as well as those in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The Commissioner will revisit any possible extension of the duration of the extension in light of any Internal Revenue Services action following federal disaster declaration for the state.

The dues dates for all applicable estimates, extensions and returns originally due on or after
October 30 and on or before November 15, have been extended to November 15, 2011. Payments by electronic funds transfer must be initiated no later than 4:30 p.m. on November 14 to be considered timely.

Some of the tax types impacted are:

CT-1040 personal income tax series,
CT-1120 Connecticut corporation business tax series
Monthly and quarterly sales and use tax,
Alcoholic beverage tax,
Admissions and dues tax,
Weekly and quarterly income tax withholding, and
Gift and estate tax

Commissioner Sullivan encouraged taxpayers who have been impacted by ice storm Alfred and are unable to comply with their tax obligations to contact DRS for assistance.

For information about various tax matters, visit the DRS website at www.ct.gov/DRS. Customer service callers should dial (800) 382-9463 (within Connecticut, but outside the Greater Hartford area) or (860) 297-5962 (from anywhere).
